Vietnamese collectives and individuals in Czech Republic honoured for fighting COVID-19

The Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic has made great contributions to the government and people of the Czech Republic in preventing the COVID-19 pandemic.

That is the affirmation of Nguyen Duy Nhien, Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the Czech Republic, at a meeting of the Executive Board of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the Czech Republic. This is the first meeting of the Association since the COVID-19 pandemic appeared in this country.

At the meeting, delegates shared the support activities of the Vietnamese community for the local government and people in the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Nhien emphasized that from the first days when the pandemic appeared, the Overseas Vietnamese Association informed and urged Vietnamese people to seriously implement the instructions of the health organizations and trust in the pandemic prevention policy of the Czech authorities.

Many Vietnamese restaurants throughout the Czech Republic have joined movements of providing free food and water to functional forces engaging in fighting the pandemic. Many organizations and individuals have gathered to make face masks to present to hospitals, authorities and people of the Czech Republic. The total amount that the Vietnamese community has donated and given to the local government and hospitals is nearly CZK5 million.

All these humane and responsible activities have been highly appreciated by the Czech government and people, and the Vietnamese community has received letters of appreciation from the Czech authorities.

In addition, in response to the call of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Vietnamese people in the Czech Republic have donated and supported over VND100 million for COVID-19 prevention in Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Truong Cong Su, Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Brno city, hoped that the COVID-19 pandemic would be repulsed and the image of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic would be increasingly asserted in the eyes of the local authorities and people.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Hieu, representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic, highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity and support of the Vietnamese community, not only for the people in Vietnam but also for Czech authorities and people. He suggested that the overseas Vietnamese continue to abide by recommendations of the local authorities in pandemic prevention and further promote the tradition of mutual support of the nation.

On this occasion, the Overseas Vietnamese Association also honored 16 Vietnamese collectives and individuals in the Czech Republic for their outstanding contributions to the COVID-19 pandemic prevention efforts./.
