Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Le Quy Quynh highlighted the significance of the Vietnamese Women's Day, which honours the great contributions of generations of Vietnamese women to the cause of construction, protection and development of the nation.
He praised the commendable achievements that women of the Overseas Vietnamese community in Malaysia have made in recent years, especially, support and mutual help among the women, as well as their help and sharing for unfortunate people in the community.
Over the past year, the Women's Club has devoted a great deal of attention to common activities of the community, especially the establishment, maintenance and development of Vietnamese language teaching classes for children of the community and participation in counselling and sharing legal experience for Vietnamese women marrying local husbands.
On this occasion, the organizers spent a large amount of time to share information about the recent floods in the northern and central provinces. This serious natural calamity has killed dozens of people, causing great damage to houses and crops, pushing thousands of families into difficult circumstances.
On behalf of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia, the Vietnamese Embassy, Community Liaison Committee and Vietnamese Women Club in Malaysia launched a movement to raise funds to help people in Vietnam overcome the consequences of the floods.
Ms. Tran Thi Chang, Head of the Vietnamese Women's Club in Malaysia, called upon the overseas Vietnamese community in Malaysia to continue to take practical acts to support domestic people to overcome difficulties to stabilize their lives.
At the ceremony, the Vietnamese Embassy presented certificates of merit to typical women, who have made remarkable contributions to the common activities of the community./.
