Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Norihiko Kokudo, Head of NCGM, said that this is a great honour for the center. For almost 30 years of cooperation, NCGM has always considered Vietnam as the most important international partner.
He said that in the coming time, the center will promote further comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam in many fields, not only in medicine.
NCGM has worked in cooperation with Vietnam since 1990. During the 28 years of cooperation, NCGM has supported Vietnam through the projects of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), World Health Organization (WHO), collaborative research works and special cooperation programs funded by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
In addition, the center has signed three memorandums of understanding with Bach Mai Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital and the Central Commission of Health Care for Senior Officials.
Since 1990, NCGM has sent 810 experts to Vietnam in many cooperative programs, and received 648 Vietnamese trainees to Japan to study and practice.
Being known as a state-run research institute under Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, it was formerly a military hospital, established in 1868. So far, NCGM has become the leading centre of medical research, examination and treatment and international cooperation of Japan./.
