Vietnamese Embassy supports Lao people affected by dam collapse

A delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy and agencies beside the embassy led by Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung on July 25th presented a sum of money to Laos’ Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare to support Lao people affected by Xe Pian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam collapse in Attapeu province.

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung shared heavy losses of people and assets Lao people have to suffer due to the Xe Pian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam collapse. He said that before this great loss, the officials, spouses of officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos and agencies besides the embassy voluntarily contributed a salary day to support the affected Lao people.

The sum of money is small, but it carries the sentiment of each official and staff member to ease the difficulties of the affected Lao people.

Lao Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Welfare Baykham Khatthinha thanked the Vietnamese Embassy and agencies for their sentiment, and affirmed that this is a noble gesture, expressing the special solidarity and loyalty between the two peoples. She promised to present this gift to the affected people in southern Laos.

On the same day, representatives of the General Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Laos and Overseas Vietnamese Association in Vientiane, also supported LAK50 million (about USD5,940); on behalf of Star Telecom Co.Ltd (Unitel), General Director Cao Anh Son also supported LAK300 million (about USD35,660)./.
