The Vietnamese community in Egypt is always proud of the country’s history, including the Reunification Day (April 30 1975), which is known to many local Egyptian people.

When the country is celebrating the day with various activities, the overseas Vietnamese (OV) in Egypt are all very happy when they have the chance to join the celebrations at the Vietnamese embassy headquarters.

Nguyen Thi Yen has no concept of the war because she was born after the southern liberation day. However, she is always feels proud because her country won independence after the hardship of the war.

She always passes down to my children the national traditions, she said, adding that her husband, a foreigner, also respects them.

Nguyen Thi Lien, another OV in Egypt, said she brings her kids to the celebration at the embassy office every year because it is a good way to remind them of Vietnam’s heroic tradition.

I am very happy that many people in my resident village know about Vietnam’s glorious victory, said Lien.

All the Vietnamese in Egypt are always willing to help each other in both their life and business and help flood-affected victims or people in the Truong Sa archipelago. Despite their busy work, they always remind their children and grandchildren of the nation’s tradition and history.

Many of the Vietnamese people in Egypt are looking forward to returning to their homeland to witness the country’s development after 36 years of reunification.
