The Vietnamese Embassy in Turkey organized an event to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dog in Ankara on January 27th.

Speaking at the event, the ambassador said that in 2017, the situation in Turkey was improved remarkably, tensions around security and politics were lessened and the economy of the country grew considerably.

In 2017, Vietnam’s economy achieved high growth rate of over 6.8%, the highest rate in the past 10 years. In terms of foreign affairs, Vietnam successfully hosted the APEC Economic Leaders' Week (AELW) with various important high-ranking events.

Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan also emphasized that 2017 marked important development in the nearly 40 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Turkey. In August 2017, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim paid his official visit to Vietnam for the first time and achieved many good results.

In July 2017, the 7th meeting of Joint Economic Commission between Turkey and Vietnam was held in Hanoi. The economic and trade relations between the two countries continued to develop optimally, the two-way trade turnover in 2017 reached nearly USD3 billion, one and a half times higher than in 2016. Leaders of the two governments have set the goal of increasing the revenue to USD4 billion by 2020. The favourable factors make it possible for overseas Vietnamese to work, live and study in Turkey, as well as travel between the two countries.

At the event, the ambassador sincerely thanked the overseas Vietnamese community for always looking toward and contributing to the homeland. In the New Year of 2018, he suggested that the Vietnamese community in Turkey continue to maintain vigilance in the context of unpredictable local security developments. He hoped that the community would continue to strengthen solidarity, mutual affection, ensuring safety, sharing information smoothly and keeping close contact with the Representative Office. The Vietnamese Embassy is always concerned and doing its best to care for and protect the interests of Vietnamese citizens living, studying and working in the country.

On the occasion of the New Year of the Dog, the ambassador sent warm congratulations to the Vietnamese community in Turkey and expected the community to continue to preserve the national identity, contribute to the country and build the good friendship between Vietnam and Turkey.

During the event, the participants enjoyed traditional dishes and art performances.
