Launched in July 2016 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on August 8th, 1967, with the aim of launching a cultural and art movement of Vietnamese entrepreneurs and people abroad and creating solidarity and cooperation among them in ASEAN countries, the Vietnam-ASEAN Singing Festival attracted the attention and participation of many Vietnamese entrepreneurs from Vietnam, Thailand and Laos.

Attending the final round were the 16 best contestants selected from the preliminary rounds which were previously conducted by the organizing board, including seven contestants from Thailand, five from Vietnam and four from Laos.

At the final round, the 16 contestants performed 16 items praising love for the nation and the Vietnam-Laos special relations.

The organizing board presented one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes and 10 consolation prizes for contestants. The first prize was awarded to Nguyen Thi Kim Lien, an overseas Vietnamese in Thailand.

According to the organizers, the 16 finalists of the Vietnam-ASEAN Singing Festival 2017 and two contestants winning extra prizes will have the chance to compete at the Global Vietnamese Singing Festival, scheduled to take place by the end of 2017 in the Czech Republic.

At the final round, in addition to items presented by contestants, there were also performances by professional singers from Vietnam and especially, a traditional long dress performance by students from the National University of Laos. This contributed to increasing the attractiveness and success of the festival.

The successful organization of the Vietnam-ASEAN Singing Festival 2017 creates a playground to enhance the spiritual life of the overseas Vietnamese community and strengthen the solidarity among the overseas Vietnamese living in Laos and Thailand. It also helps them love the homeland more and always look towards the nation./.
