Writing contest about sovereignty over sea and islands for overseas Vietnamese youth launched

A writing contest with the theme “Overseas Vietnamese students and youth with the task of protecting sovereignty over sea and islands of Vietnam" was officially launched by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and the Vietnamese Youth Federation Central Committee in Hanoi on July 13th.

For the first time, overseas Vietnamese youth have the opportunity to participate in a writing contest about sovereignty over the seas and islands of the homeland. Through the contest, the organizing board wishes for young people to raise their awareness and responsibility for the protection of national sovereignty.

The contest aims to promote information dissemination on the task of protecting sovereignty over the sea and islands and territorial integrity of the country, strengthening education on revolutionary tradition, patriotism, and national pride for overseas Vietnamese youth; encouragement of ideas, initiatives, solutions and practical contributions to the task of protecting sovereignty over the sea and islands of the nation.

Mr. Truong Minh Tuan, Minister of MIC, Head of the Steering Committee, said that the contest not only helps overseas Vietnamese youth learn about the sea and islands of homeland, but it also contributes to collecting and donating documents relating to the sea, islands and Vietnam’s sovereignty over Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos.

Besides, Minister Truong Minh Tuan also wants overseas Vietnamese youth to actively participate in the contest in order to raise awareness and responsibility of overseas Vietnamese students and youth for the cause of building and defending the nation in the new situation.

Participants are Vietnamese individuals and collectives aged 16 to 35, currently living, studying or working abroad.

Entries focus on main contents such as collection and provision of historical and legal information, materials and documents confirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos; proposing and introducing initiatives, ideas and solutions of students and youth in the struggle to protect sovereignty over sea and islands of Vietnam; and proposing and introducing initiatives, ideas and solutions with scientific basis to contribute to the development of marine economy, culture and protection of the marine environment of Vietnam.

The prize of the contest includes one first prize worth VND30 million, two second prizes, each worth VND10 million, three third prizes each worth VND5 million and five consolation prizes each worth VND2 million.

In particular, those winning high prizes will join a delegation to visit Truong Sa Island district and each collective will be appointed a representative to be involved in the delegation.

The time to receive entries is from July 14th to late October 31st based on the postmark.
