Hanoi specialties in autumn

Plenty of people arrive in the capital Hanoi to study or work, many of them choose to stay in the capital a long time just because they love Hanoi in autumn.

Hanoi in autumn seems to be different. It is not hot and the sunlight becomes softer, along with autumn winds, making people become more romantic and gentler. In particular, autumn comes and brings many specialties that many Hanoi people are passionate about.

People in Hanoi are able to enjoy all four seasons in a year, with autumn being the most suitable time in which to wander the beautiful streets and enjoy the city to its fullest.

Com, a type of green sticky rice, is considered a specialty of Hanoi during autumn

Vong village in Dich Vong ward of Cau Giay district is famous for this type of specialty. Com cake can be easily found throughout the trade village.

Autumn in Hanoi is famous for Sua flower (or scientific name of Alstonia scholaris), which is grown along streets and parks throughout the capital, creating a pleasant atmosphere for local people to enjoy. Sua flower trees are planted much along main streets such as Quan Thanh and Nguyen Du.

Autumn is also the ripening season of Sau fruit, which is also known in their scientific name of Dracontomelon.

Phan Dinh Phung Street is well known for many big, old Sau trees. Local residents say only Sau picked here is typical of Hanoi.

Thi is also known by their scientific name of Diospyros decandra, which has a special taste and is an unmissable thing to try in Hanoi in the autumn. It ripens around late lunar June and early lunar July.

Pathways around the capital are littered with beautiful yellow leaves in autumn.


In each season, Hanoi has a particular kind of flower, street vendors across the capital bringing colourful flowers to major streets.



Moreover, local people can also purchase a variety of different fruits from street vendors.
