US Ambassador celebrates Mid-Autumn festival with children with disabilities

US Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink visited the children with disabilities in Soc Son district (Hanoi) to celebrate his first Mid-Autumn festival in Vietnam.

“This is the first time I have celebrated Mid-Autumn in Vietnam,” US Ambassador to Vietnam
Daniel Kritenbrink said during his visit to the School for Disabled Children in Soc Son district.


He surprised everyone by wearing an Ong Dia (the Earth god) mask and weaving a paper fan to participate the lion dance.

Mr. Kritenbrink and dancing artists around the children with disabilities.

He also learned how to make sticky cakes and presented them to pupils.

The US Ambassador also joined students in painting paper masks. “I’m afraid that my two children will be frightened by them” he joked.

The School for Disabled Children in Soc Son district, founded in 2000, is home to 96 handicapped and autistic children between six and 30.

The US Ambassador presented gifts to disabled children  at the school before finishing the program.
“I’m very proud of participating the program. I chose the school because we would like to show our respect to Vietnamese culture, as well as our love to all Vietnamese children”, he said./.
