In addition, local departments and branches in the province were directed to carry out activities to respond to the event and to enhance the investigation into the future exploitation and use of natural resources to protect the sea and island environment.

The 2015 Vietnam Sea and Islands Week, themed “Blue Ocean, Green Planet”, will be held from June 1st to 8th. This year’s theme coincides with that of World Oceans Day. The main events will be organised in the central province of Quang Ngai.

The week is aimed at raising public awareness of the function, role and special importance of the seas and ocean, the sustainable development of oceans and the minimization of the adverse impacts of climate change on Vietnam and the rest of the world.

Vietnam has adopted a marine economic development strategy with the goal of raising the proportion of sea-based sectors to 53-55% of the national GDP and 55-60% of export revenues by 2020./.
