Vietnam is one of the countries with high biodiversity with many different types of forests, swamps, rivers, streams and coral reefs ... that have created habitats for many kinds of wildlife (estimated at about 10% of wildlife in the world, and many precious and rare plants are an important source of medicinal herbs). Consequently, biodiversity conservation is always received special attention from the Government, international organizations and the whole society.

"Biodiversity in Viet Nam brings direct benefits to the people and contributes greatly to the economy, providing livelihoods for the people and protecting the environment. However, Vietnam's biodiversity resources are continuing a downturn; ecosystems are narrowed, fragmented and degraded; the endangered species are on the rise. Therefore, to raise awareness about biodiversity, to manage and to use rational biodiversity resources are very essential" Ms. Akiko Fujii, UNDP Viet Nam Deputy Country Director, said.
