On April 24, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yasuaki Tanizaki and a delegation of Vietnamese cadres paid a working visit to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh city, and had an exchange with leaders of the hospital concerning the construction of Cho Ray Vietnam - Japan Friendship Hospital in the city.

The Ambassador said the plan on building Cho Ray Vietnam-Japan Friendship Hospital, discussed by the two countries’ prime ministers earlier this year, is a meaningful project and in line with Japan’s aid policy to Vietnam.

The plan will focus on the improvement of the quality of medical staff and cooperation between the two countries to meet social demand. Japan will continue supporting Vietnam in both capital and human resources in the field, while implementing training programmes for medical workers in local hospitals, he said. In addition, Japan will maintain cooperation programmes with central medical institutions such as Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh city, Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi and Hue Central Hospital, he added.

Earlier, in January 2013, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien proposed that the Japanese government give aid for Cho Ray Vietnam – Japan Friendship Hospital.

With the scale of 1,000 patient beds, the hospital is considered a measure to solve the current patient overload issue at Cho Ray Hospital./.
