Five female Vietnamese scientists honoured

Five female Vietnamese scientists were granted the 2017 L'Oreal-UNESCO Awards at a ceremony recently held in Hanoi.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai, head of the Faculty of Pharmacy under Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Dung, head of the Department for Environmentally Friendly Technology of the Institute of Environment Technology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, won the L'Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science.

Three young female scientists received the L’Oreal National Fellowship for Women in Science. They are Dr. Tran Phuong Thao, lecturer of pharmaceutical chemistry from the Hanoi University of Pharmacy; Dr. Hoang Thi Dong Quy, lecturer from Faculty of Science and Material Technology from the University of Science under Vietnam National University, VNU-Ho Chi Minh city; and Dr. Nguyen Thi Le Thu, lecturer from the Faculty of Material Science from the University of Technology under Vietnam National University, VNU-Ho Chi Minh city.

Criteria for selection are based on outstanding scientific research results through published writing in international magazines and scientific publications, and scientific activities.

The Awards have been granted for female Vietnamese scientists since 2010. Over the past seven years, the program has honoured 24 female Vietnamese potential scientists for their contribution to scientific research, and helped them continue their passion in science./.
