Health cooperation program with WHO approved

The Prime Minister has approved a health cooperation program with the World Health Organization (WHO) in the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

The program aims to support the Vietnamese government in addressing priority issues of the country’s healthcare system and implementing the healthcare strategy in the 2016-2020 period, vision to 2030 and the project of “Development and Building Healthcare Network in the 2016 - 2025 period”.

It will help enhance institutional and human capabilities, health financing, pharmaceutical products and health services delivery in order to reduce households’ healthcare expenditures and increase the presence of doctors at communal-level health stations; improve capabilities to carry out the International Health Regulations (IHR); deal with urgent health issues; and efficiently use WHO financial support for Vietnam in improving citizens’ health.

Besides, the risk of communicable and non-communicable diseases in the community, such as HIV/AIDS, virus hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis and malaria will also be reduced.

The Ministry of Health is responsible for implementing the program in 2018 and 2019 with total non-refundable official development assistance estimated at USD21.104 million./.
