Ho Chi Minh city builds children’s heart center

Ho Chi Minh city’s Children’s Hospital No.1 is assigned to develop a specialized center on child heart treatment in accordance with the city’s planning on the development of the medical sector.

To realize the planning, it is preparing to inaugurate a specialized center for child heart disease treatment for children in late 2018, which is expected to be put into operation by late 2020.

Together with the building of the center, doctors, surgeons, nurses and technicians will also be trained by world leading experts in children’s heart diseases, for increasing their ability to perform the most modern and advanced diagnosis and treatment technologies.  

The medical staff will address a majority of the most complex heart diseases in children, including giving heart surgeries to prematurely born children and those who are born with serious lack of weight or at high risk of contracting heart diseases. They will also be trained for provide child heart check-ups and intervention, and stem cell treatment, before conducting heart transplants in the near future.

According to medical experts, congenital heart disease is among common diseases in children, and the disease carries high risk of fatality and often leaves serious consequences for the child patients and their families.

Statistics show that congenital heart diseases occur among 7-8 children per 1,000 births.

The center, once completed, will provide specialized heart diagnosis and treatment technologies equivalent to world advanced technologies.

So far, the Children’s Hospital No.1 has given surgeries to nearly 5,000 children with congenital heart diseases, while over 5,500 others have received heart cath./.
