The meeting aimed at concretizing the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam that assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology to preside and coordinate with the Ministry of Health, other ministries, organizations and businesses, to research and produce COVID-19 vaccines.

Experts are confident in their research direction, even though the development and production of COVID-19 vaccine require multi-sectoral, long-term cooperation.

Vietnam has currently effectively controlled two main methods of coronavirus testing, using the Real-Time-PCR and antibody diagnosis.

Vietnam Central Lung Hospital has completed a pilot protocol on using BCG tuberculosis vaccine in preventing COVID-19, pending approval by the Ministry of Health. If approved, the trial will be conducted on 800 frontline health workers at two tropical disease hospitals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city.

Scientists at the meeting said this was a very difficult task. However, Vietnam had previous research results such as virus isolation and successful production of test products. Therefore, they expressed confidence that, under the coordination and direction of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam will have positive research directions in the future./.
