The course applies the unique format of combining plenary session, discussion and technical training that consisted series of concentrated high-quality teaching sessions and courses on acute stroke management as well as hands-on training for interventional neuro-radiologists and special teaching sessions for stroke physicians.

For the past five years, the European Stroke Winter School, endorsed by the European Stroke Organisation (ESO), European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR) and European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT), has been held in Bern, Switzerland. Its approach is unique: Interventionists and neurologists from an existing or potential stroke treatment site apply together to attend the course and are trained together to go home and start their service. In recent years, more than 300 participants from over 20 countries have participated in this course.

The course format has turned out to be successful to spark interest in providing comprehensive endovascular stroke treatment services throughout Europe. The first Asian Stroke Summer in SIS has extended this success by making the Winter School content and training accessible for interventionists and neurologists in the Asia Pacific region.

SIS International General Hospital is the first stroke hospital in Mekong Delta, Vietnam, dedicated to providing timely treatment for approximately 10,000 stroke patients for the region with population of 17 million.

Being one of the most common causes of death and disability worldwide, stroke can happen to anyone at any age and at any time. Statistics show that there is an average of 200,000 stroke patients in Vietnam every year. The mortality and disability rate is still high due to many reasons including limited capacity in endovascular intervention in hospitals and late hospitalization. Since the beginning, SIS Hospital was considered as a visionary project. With its strategic location in the heart of Mekong Delta region, the hospital plays a critical role in providing timely treatment for stroke patients, thus helping to reduce the risk of disability and death, as well as improving the delivery and coordination of care in acute stroke.

The global leading med – tech provider Siemens Healthineers plays an active role supporting the Asian Stroke Summer School.  Being the strategic partner of SIS General International Hospital, Siemens Healthineers provided comprehensive solutions including high-end imaging diagnostic and interventional equipment that enables SIS International General Hospital to deliver high value care to all patients with no compromise on quality.

Mr. Fabrice Leguet, Managing Director, South East Asia Siemens Healthineers, stated: “Siemens Healthineers is transforming the way care is delivered for the benefit of society as a whole, by playing an active role in understanding the needs of its customers, to make healthcare more accessible for populations worldwide. We are very proud to be associated with SIS in supporting them in living their vision of Asian Stroke Summer School, enabling them to save more stroke patients”./.
