Vietnam holds high rankings in the Global Innovation Index 2020, at 42nd out of 131 countries and economies, the number one position in the group of 29 countries with the same income level and the 3rd in Southeast Asia.

The figures were taken from the report of the Global Innovation Index 2020, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on September 2.

Compared to 2019, the index of innovative products increased by 9 steps; the index of institution and enterprise cooperation increased by 10 steps; the index of publishing scientific and technical articles increased by 13 steps; the index of capacity to absorb knowledge increased 13 steps; and the index of input facilitating innovation increased 1 step.

In a recent statement, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh said that the Government considers innovation a new field in State management, a new pillar in socio-economic development. For the first time, the innovation index has become a criterion to measure the effectiveness of the annual national business environment and competitiveness.

The Global Innovation Index is a set of tools to evaluate the innovation capacity of countries, published by WIPO in collaboration with INSEAD Institute (France) and Cornell University (the US)./.
