Vietnam wins four gold medals at 19th Asian Physics Olympiad

The eight-member Vietnam team won 4 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes at the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 2018), which was organized in Hanoi from May 5th to 13th.

The four gold medals were awarded to Tran Duc Huy, a 12th grader from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School in Hanoi; Nguyen Ngoc Long, a 12th grader from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa province; Nguyen Van Thanh Loi, a 12th grader from Quang Trung High School for the Gifted in the southern province of Binh Phuoc; and Trinh Duy Hieu, an 11th grader from Bac Giang High School for the Gifted in the northern province of Bac Giang.

The two silvers were given to Nguyen Xuan Tan, an 11th grader from the Natural Science High School for the Gifted under Vietnam National University, VNU-Hanoi; and Nguyen Van Duy, a 12th grader from the High School of Hanoi National University of Education.

The two bronzes were Le Cao Anh, a 12th grader from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa province; and Le Ky Nam, a 12th grader from Ha Long High School for the Gifted in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Tran Duc Huy, one of the gold medalists, also received the title “Host contestant with highest score”.

The Olympiad drew the participation of 185 candidates from 25 countries and territories.

At the closing ceremony, the Organisation Board awarded 33 gold, 13 silver, and 24 bronze medals, as well as 9 special prizes, to individuals for their excellent performance./.
