Vietnamese female scientists honoured

The L’Oréal - UNESCO For Women in Science on November 29th has held a ceremony in Hanoi to honour Vietnamese female scientists in 2016.

The winners of the L’Oréal - UNESCO For Women in Science 2016 were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lang from the Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute, and Dr. Nguyen Thi Mua from the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security. Their research projects focussed on high quality hybrid rice varieties and anti-fire materials, respectively.

Three other young female scientists also received the L’Oreal National Fellowship for Women in Science. They were all Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Thi Ha from the National Institute of Medicinal Materials, Dr. Do Thi Phuc from Vietnam National University - Hanoi, and Dr. Nguyen Thi Hiep from Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh city.

They have made contributions to the health care sector by seeking new medicinal materials for cancer treatments and studying new varieties of plants that are adaptable to climate change and salinity invasion as well as improving materials used for odontology.
