Vietnamese students win eight Olympiad gold medals in maths and science

All 23 Vietnamese students joining the 15th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) won medals, including 8 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training reported on October 3rd.

According to the department, eight gold medals, including four in maths and the others in science, were presented to the most excellent students from Hanoi and Hai Phong cities’ schools.  

This was the fourth time Vietnam joined the event, with all 69 Vietnamese competitors winning medals, including 13 gold, from 2015 to 2017.

IMSO is an annual competition for students under 13 years old, aiming to encourage pupils to develop their maths and science ability. This year’s event was hosted by China from September 28th to October 4th, attracting 400 students of 25 teams from 22 countries and territories.

During the announcement of the results held on October 2nd, Le Ngoc Quang, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, and Head of the Vietnamese students’ delegation, received the right of hosting the 2019 IMSO in Hanoi. IMSO appreciated Vietnamese students’ achievements over the past years, as well as the country’s readiness to host the event./.
