“The figure does not meet the Prime Minister’s assignment of 80.7% set for the city in 2017,” said Mr. Sang. “To reach medical insurance card coverage, from now until the end of this year, an additional 123,358 people must join medical insurance.”

Regarding those who do not have medical insurance cards, Mr. Sang said that they include some 220,000 labourers who have not joined social insurance, 230,000 students and pupils, and nearly 1.3 million residents in families.

He suggested that people should join medical insurance to cover increases in medical fees of 20-30%.

He added that medical insurance will help share medical fee burden for patients, especially with hi-tech services. “Over the past time, many patients contracting dangerous diseases have been paid hundreds of millions of VND each,” said Mr. Sang./.
