Being invested with over VND378 billion, the project delivers power supply to 6,158 families. According to the provincial Power Company, power is expected to be provided for some 4,100 families across 69 villages in 29 communes before the lunar New Year festival. As planned, in 2018, over 6,000 families will benefit from the project.

In 2017, the Son La provincial Power Company carried out two biddings under two projects in providing power for 2,550 of 6,158 families in the four districts of Thuan Chau, Muong La, Bac Yen and Phu Yen who did not have access to the national grid. Meanwhile, another 6 contracts were also implemented, providing power for 3,362 of 15,954 families in Mai Son, Moc Chau, Van Ho, Song Ma, Sop Cop, Thuan Chau, Yen Chau and Phu Yen districts.

Le Quang Thai, Deputy Director of the Northern Power Corporation, said that among 27 localities the corporation manages, the rate of rural families having access to the national grid reaches 98.35%; of which Son La is among mountainous provinces with a large number of families without access to the national grid. So far, only 91.5% of the families have power to use, while over 25,000 families do not.

Over the past years, the Government and localities have actively mobilized resources to bring power to remote and border areas. Since 2016, the Electricity of Vietnam and the Northern Power Corporation have carried out three power projects in Son La province, using over VND600 billion, benefiting nearly 13,000 rural families, while making remarkable contribution to promoting industrial, agricultural and service development; and enriching the families’ cultural and spiritual lives./.
