Arranging administrative units in northwestern provinces

The National Assembly Standing Committee has issued a resolution on arrangement of administrative units in the northwestern provinces of Lai Chau and Yen Bai.

According to Resolution 866/NQ-UBTVQH14, which takes effect February 1st, 2020, Lai Chau province incorporates the natural area and population of Sung Phai commune of Tam Duong district into Lai Chau city; and the natural area and population of Nam Loong commune of Lai Chau city into Sung Phai commune of Lai Chau city.

After the adjustment, Lai Chau city has 7 commune level administrative units, including 5 wards and 2 communes. Tam Duong district has 13 commune level administrative units, including 12 communes and 1 townlet.

Phong Tho district has 17 commune level administrative units, including 16 communes and 1 townlet, after adjusting the natural area and population size of Ma Li Chai and Si Lo Lau communes.

Lai Chau province now has 8 district level administrative units, including 7 districts and 1 city; and 106 commune level administrative units, including 94 communes, 5 wards and 7 townlets.

According to Resolution 870/NQ-UBTVQH14, Yen Bai province adjusts the natural area and population scale of the communes of Phu Nham, Son A, Hanh Son, Phuc Son, Thanh Luong and Thach Luong, Nghia Lo farm town of Van Chan district and Nghia Lo town.

Nghia Lo town establishes Nghia Lo commune on the basis of the entire natural area and population scale of Nghia Lo farm town.

Van Chan district establishes Son Thinh townlet based on the natural area and population scale of Son Thinh commune.

After arranging administrative units, Nghia Lo town has 14 commune level administrative units, including 4 wards and 10 communes.

Van Chan district has 24 commune level administrative units, including 21 communes and 3 townlets.

Yen Bai city adjusts the natural area and population scale of Van Tien, Van Phu, Phuc Loc and Gioi Phien communes.

After rearrangement, Yen Bai city has 15 commune level administrative units, including 9 wards and 6 communes.

Yen Binh district adjusts the natural area and population scale of the communes of Tich Coc, Cam Nhan, Van Lang and Phu Thinh.

After the rearrangement, Yen Binh district has 24 commune level administrative units, including 22 communes and 2 townlets.

Van Yen district adjusts the natural area and population of Hoang Thang, Xuan Ai, Yen Hung and Yen Thai communes.

After the rearrangement, Van Yen district has 25 commune level administrative units, including 24 communes and 1 townlet.

Tran Yen district adjusts the natural area and population of Minh Tien and Y Can communes.

After the arrangement, Tran Yen district has 21 commune level administrative units, including 20 communes and 1 townlet.

This resolution takes effect February 1st, 2020. Since then Yen Bai province has 9 district-level administrative units, including 7 districts, 1 town and 1 city; 173 commune level administrative units, including 150 communes, 13 wards and 10 townlets./.
