This was part of the program “Education welfare scholarships - Bicycles to school” which targets to provide 2,000 bicycles and 2,000 backpacks worth total of VND5 billion to disadvantaged pupils nationwide this year.

During the granting ceremony, 50 bicycles were allocated to studious disadvantaged pupils in Soc Trang province by Deputy Minister of Labor, War-Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha.

Over the past years, there are a number of pupils who have to drop off school due to disadvantaged circumstances. There are currently over 347,400 children in Soc Trang province, including some 3,200 living in special circumstances and some 62,000 in risk of falling into extremely disadvantaged circumstances. A number of poor families cannot afford their children’s educational equipment. In some remote areas, pupils have to walk 5-10 kilometers to school, which affects their life, academic results and future.

The program “Education welfare scholarships - Bicycles to school” has been carried out by Bao Viet Life over the past 14 years. Through the NFVC, the program has presented over 10,000 scholarships and 12,000 presents worth VND23 billion to children living in special circumstances across 63 provinces and cities./.
