Ca Mau carries out 10 urgent projects for natural disaster mitigation

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has decided to give assistance worth VND80 billion to the southern province of Ca Mau to help the locality carry out urgent projects mitigating the consequences of drought and salt intrusion, the provincial People’s Committee has reported.

Accordingly, the province will promptly complete procedures to carry out 10 projects, including projects repairing, upgrading and expanding concentrated water networks; constructing a water reservoir on Hon Khoai Island; constructing drainage systems to prevent salt intrusion and keep fresh water; and carry out canal dredging to serve people’s daily life and production.

Ca Mau has coast with a length of 254 kilometres and thousands of rivers and channels. With the influence of climate change, recently, local residents have frequently faced natural disasters, including drought, salt intrusion and sea dyke damage, causing losses of tens of billions of VND.

The situation requires the building of diverse urgent constructions to develop production and stabilize the lives of thousands of families affected by natural disasters./.
