So said Nguyen Hung Long, Deputy Head of the Food Safety Department under the Ministry of Health.

According to Mr. Long, among the samples, 97 are fresh seafood and 42 are vegetables and water. “A majority of fisheries samples were caught offshore,” he said.

He added that in realization of the Government’s direction, after the massive fish die-off was reported, the Ministry of Health established four working teams to the central provinces to inspect the use of food, especially the use of fisheries, in order to prevent the trade of the dead fish.

The Food Safety Department takes samples of fresh fisheries twice per day, inspecting whether they contain toxins, and the results are announced the day after./.
