According to Gavin Smith, Investment Director of Dragon Capital Management Limited, the group has 23 years of experience in building solar energy power plants and has succeeded in countries having similar conditions with Vietnam such as Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. He added that Can Tho city has plentiful solar energy, which is a favorable condition for producing power through a solar energy power plant.

Earlier negotiations between the two sides showed that Dragon Capital Management Limited would carry out a feasibility assessment in August before inaugurating the plant construction by late first quarter in 2018. Accordingly, the project will be divided into two phases, providing 29MW of solar power after the first phase and 100 KW after the second phase, using an investment of VND1 trillion.

Ms Vo Thi Hong Anh, Vice Head of the Can Tho city People’s Committee, said that the city appreciated the feasibility and economic significance of the project. Once completed, the project will help reduce the load on the national grid while creating jobs for local laborers.

The city suggested that Dragon Capital Management Limited carry out research to select a location for the plant, then make a detailed report on the roadmap of the building, ensuring that the construction does not affect land for agricultural production./.
