According to the organising committee, over the past 17 years, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has mobilized over VND13.4 trillion for the fund for the poor, and assisted localities’ social welfare with over VND36.213 trillion. From the capital, nearly 1.5 million houses have been built for the poor, while tens of millions of poor families have been provided with production tools and other constructions.

However, there are currently over 1.9 million poor families and over 1.3 million nearly-poor families in need of housing, education, vocational training and stable livelihood assistance, which requires the support of the whole society.

To make the live broadcast program “Joining hands for the poor” effective, the Vietnam Fatherland Front suggested businesses, organizations, and Vietnamese people inside and outside the country donate money and goods to assist the poor.

The program is expected to be held annually to respond to the emulation movement “The whole country joins hands for the poor - Leave no one behind” launched by the Prime Minister, contributing to realizing the sustainable poverty reduction target.

According to Ms Anh, the program not only supports the poor, but also helps them escape poverty sustainably by building roads to facilitate their production, supporting children’s education, giving healthcare to poor patients, setting up links for consuming the poor’s products, providing them livelihood and vocational training as well as jobs, and supporting the building of constructions in extremely disadvantaged villages in terms of classrooms, irrigation works and safe water constructions./.
