According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the days to come, rain is likely to occur on a large scale in northern and north-central regions. Together with the consequences of the second storm, there is a high risk of landslides, flooding and environmental pollution, which heightens the risk of epidemics.

To deal with the situation, the Preventive Health Department under the Ministry of Health asked provincial and city Health Departments across the country to carry out plans to prevent epidemics, provide safe water and ensure environmental sanitation during floods.

The departments were requested to instruct people in flooded areas on how to ensure personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, food safety, deal with bodies of dead animals and other hygienic measures.

They will also be responsible for promptly detecting and treating infectious outbreaks after floods, including diarrhoea, eye diseases, respiratory diseases, foot diseases, flu and petechial fever, especially prevention of infectious congestive diseases.

Localities are in charge of carrying out environmental protection activities during floods, sanitising the environment after water withdrawal, using chemicals to treat bodies of dead animals, spraying chemicals to kill insects, and preparing human resources, equipment and facilities for preventing infectious diseases./.
