Nearly 630 farmers in Hiep Phuoc commune, Nha Be district, Ho Chi Minh city, have followed Uncle Ho’s teachings by carrying out practical deeds, helping each other in boosting economic development, supporting loans for farmers, and presenting scholarships to poor children of the communal farmers’ union members.

Farmer Tran Van Xuan has a new life thanks to raising shrimp over the past 10 years. His 4 hectares of rice production with low productivity have been shifted into raising shrimp, helping him become a billionaire. He has the chance to share this experience with other farmers.

He has assisted Mr. Tran Van Thien, a disadvantaged farmer, with 200,000 breeding shrimp worth some VND22 million, and the others with buying breeding food on credit. “Farmers here are enthusiastic about helping each other to ease difficulties,” he said.

Tran Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Hiep Phuoc communal Farmers’ Union, said that over the past year, not only Mr. Thien, but over 1,429 farmers have been provided with loans worth over VND31 billion from the Bank for Social Policies, satisfying the demand for loans for boosting production and domestic economic development.

Following Uncle Ho’s humanitarian spirit, farmers have worked to support those in disadvantaged circumstances. So far 6 poor farmers’ children have been awarded with scholarships worth VND4.5 million each, while 29 others were provided scholarships worth VND1.2 million each. Dozens of pupils have been presented with educational tools and a farmer has been assisted with VND50 million for building a new house.

According to Mr. Vinh, following Uncle Ho’s example has helped the union members practice thrift in breeding and production by saving food and fertilizer while gaining high efficiency; and saving power and water, as well as ceremonies in daily life.

“Following Uncle Ho’s teachings has been realized by building and carrying out specific plans and encouraging each member to join,” he said, adding that in 2018, the union inaugurated six shops showing and introducing local agricultural products, helping farmers to promote their products and consumers to buy safe ones./.
