The activity aimed to increase the biodiversity of the forest and thus improve ecological services such as mitigating climate change, resisting soil erosion, moderating climate as well as created suitable habitat for wildlife. The forest will be taken care of continuously for four years to ensure that it is well developed.

The participants also take part in surveys to learn about the status of the forest, at the time of plantation and in the ensuing four years, thus helping them experience impacts on the environment and ecosystems of the new forest. The survey activities include creating a list of plant and animal species, measuring tree height and foliage coverage, observing vegetation coverage and taking photos to monitor changes.

With the participation of over 130 staff and leaders of EXO Travel, this forest plantation and monitoring program, initiated by Gaia Nature Conservation, is strongly supported by Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve.

The new enriched forest will provide food and shelter for countless wildlife species, including endangered species such as Asian Elephant, Gaur, Great Hornbill, Black-Shanked Douc and others.

The participants also learnt practical knowledge of forest and wildlife of Vietnam and Dong Nai World Biosphere Reserve. The team building session with the theme on forest plantation and environment protection was successfully organized in an exciting atmosphere.

“The forest plantation and monitoring program is so meaningful and sustainable. Our staff are totally exciting with the forest plantation and survey activities, and also the team building session. We also look forward for the coming years to learn how the forest would create impacts on the environment and the ecosystem. The program not only connects our staff to nature, but also to each other,” Ms. Bui Thuc Tue Thanh, Human Resource Manager of EXO Travel expressed.

“The total area of forest in Vietnam is decreasing and quality of a large area of forest is poor. We, human beings, are facing more and more serious natural calamities, climate change and wildlife extinction. The forest plantation and monitoring program are carefully designed so that the participants not only contribute directly to nature through forest plantation activities, but also gain valuable and creative  experiences, in a professional, relaxing and inspiring atmosphere,” said Ms. Do Thi Thanh Huyen, the Founder and Executive Director of Gaia Nature Conservation, who has been working on conservation in Vietnam for over 17 years.

Gaia is creating more initiatives in forest plantation and monitoring at Dong Nai World Biosphere Reserve as well as in other forests of Vietnam, in order to enhance ecological services and wildlife protection./.
