The congress aims to summarize and assess the socio-economic development situation in five years (from 2014 to 2019) in ethnic minority areas, with the focus on sustainable poverty reduction, new-styled rural areas building, human resources training, people’s intellectual standards improving, and ethnic policies implementation in Gia Lai.
According to a report at the event, Gia Lai now has 100% of communes with automobile roads to the center; and 100 out of 184 communes meet the second criterion on transport in accordance with the National Target Program on new-style rural areas building.
The province now has 58 communes meeting the standards of new-style rural areas and strives to have an additional 14 new-styled rural communes in the coming time.
The whole locality has 46.23% of the population being ethnic minorities, in which 17% are cadres, civil servants working in agencies of the Party, government, front, and union. Many of them are entrusted to be planned and appointed as leaders of party committees, agencies, units and localities.
While recognizing the achievements Gia Lai has made over the past time, Mr. Truong Hoa Binh hailed the management work of leaders in comprehensively carrying out 22 ethnic policies, paying close attention to investment in ethnic minority areas, support for production land, residential land, fresh water, health care, education and training and job creation.
On this occasion, Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Do Van Chien presented certificates of merit to 5 teams and 20 individuals with outstanding performance in ethnic affairs. Chairman of the Gia Lai People’s Committee Vo Ngoc Thanh awarded certificates of merit to 39 teams and 166 individuals./.
