Hai Phong seizes two containers containing large amounts of khat leaves and shisha

The Hai Phong Customs Department, the Police Department for Investigation of Drug related Crimes under the Hai Phong Police, and related authorities on March 21st were rewarded for discovering and seizing two containers of containing large amounts of khat leaves and shisha.

The two containers containing khat leaves and shisha, identified to be transported from an African country, arrived in Tan Vu port in June, 2016. The receiving unit is a Vietnamese business; however, the business has had an official dispatch of refusal to receive the above consignment.

The authorities opened the two containers, one of which contains khat leaves packed in 353 cartons, estimated at 2,800 kg, and another container was identified as containing shisha.

Khat leaf is a kind of herbal remedy, containing cathinone, which is more dangerous than crystal methamphetamine many times and more dangerous than usually drugs up to 500 times.

According to the provisions of the law, the import of shisha must comply with regulations on production, identification of tobacco and other relevant provisions. This is also a good which is closely managed by the government and only allowed limited import.

The case is being investigated by the authorities./.
