HCMC mobilizes over VND404 billion for humanitarian work

In 2017, the Ho Chi Minh city Red Cross promoted its role in carrying out humanitarian and charitable activities, using a mobilized amount of over VND404 billion.

During a meeting to review the work on January 17th, representatives from the organization’s Executive Committee said that diverse programs had been conducted efficiently, including the program providing cows to districts; the program caring for orphans, disabled children, AO victims, lonely elderly people and poor pupils; the program encouraging people to donate blood and prevent diseases; the program helping the Spratly Islands develop plantation of vegetables; and simulation campaigns on rescue work and first-aid.

As a result, 2,786 units of blood were collected; 203,162 cases received urgent assistance; and over 5.7 million meals were distributed. Additionally, the organization helped nearly 65,000 pupils go to school; presented nearly 3,900 scholarships to poor pupils and over 3,100 AO victims; allocated over 83,000 presents to disadvantaged families, beneficiaries’ and revolutionary contributors’ families; conducted rescue work and first aid for over 108,600 cases; and repaired 104 and built 37 houses for teachers in remote areas.

In 2018, the city Red Cross will actively carry out the program giving 112,000 Tet presents to poor people and victims of AO while continuing humanitarian programs, said Mr Le Quang Ninh, President of the city Red Cross./.
