Ho Chi Minh city assists flood affected people with VND3.6 billion

On August 9th, a delegation led by Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee and Chairwoman of the city People’s Council, visited and gave presents to flood affected people in Nam Pam commune, Muong La district, Son La province.

According to Muong La district leaders, as of August 9th, the flood killed 10 people, left 5 people missing and injured 12 others, and damaged 398 houses together with diverse traffic, irrigation, power and water supply constructions, causing total losses of over VND670 billion.

Ms La appreciated the efforts of the district leaders in rescuing people and property, minimizing the human and property loss.

She gave her regards to the affected people, and presented the city’s assistance worth VND1.2 billion to help 30 families in the district whose houses were destroyed by the flood.

On August 10th, Tat Thanh Cang, Party Central Committee member and Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee, also led a delegation to visit flood affected people in Dien Bien province, and presented VND1.2 billion from the city to support the building of 30 houses in the province.

So far the city has given support worth VND3.6 billion to 90 families in Yen Bai, Dien Bien and Son La province to help them rebuild destroyed houses.

In early August, floods caused by torrential rain occurred in several northwestern localities, killing 26 people and leaving 15 others missing, sweeping away 230 houses and damaging over 400 more, forcing 400 families to evacuate, and causing losses of over VND940 billion./.
