Ho Chi Minh city carries out 39 social housing projects

By 2020, Ho Chi Minh city will have an additional 200,000 accommodations for workers, with the average housing area of 19.8 square meters per person.

Statistics from the Ho Chi Minh city Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority (HEPZA) show that the city sees the largest number of migrant labourers in the country, some 1.2 million, including 245,000 workers in export processing and industrial zones that have demand for housing.

According to the Ho Chi Minh city Department of Construction, the city has always made efforts in building social housing for low-income people, especially workers. Since 2006, the city has completed 5,514 apartments, providing 39,500 accommodations. At present, the city is carrying out 39 social housing projects with nearly 43,700 flats. In addition, 94 commercial housing projects put forth land for building 157,000 flats as social housing. 

The city is calling on investors for housing for rent. By 2020, the city expects to provide an additional 1.2 million square meters of housing, providing 200,000 accommodations for laborers, especially for thoes in export processing and industrial zones./.
