Ho Chi Minh city increases hi-tech application in agricultural production

According to the Ho Chi Minh city Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, through 2020, the area for agricultural production is expected to remain over 89,800 hectares, including 3,000 for rice production and 10,700 for aquaculture.

The city targets to raise the value of agricultural production by over 5% per year and the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production by 6% per year by increasing the contribution from hi-tech agricultural production by over 60% by 2020, and more in the following years, and by raising the application of mechanization and automation in agricultural production by over 50%.

Accordingly, the agricultural sector plans to transition ineffective rice production area into other crops with higher economic values and suitable for urban agriculture; establish a zone of high productivity and high quality specialized rice production; diversify short-term plants; increase application of high technologies into production; and develop commodities production areas of agricultural products, mainly vegetables.

In terms of breeding, the city will continue to produce high quality breeding animals, meat, eggs and milk; set up adequate slaughterhouses and product consumption chains; develop trademarks of high quality breeding animals and become a centre for breeding animal provision./.
