Statistics by the city Department of Health show that from the beginning of this year to August 11th, over 12,200 cases of dengue fever were reported, a year-on-year increase of 27%.

To fight dengue fever, the city Preventive Health Centre has carried out synchronous solutions, including killing larva in all residential areas; and inspecting locations at risk for mosquito infestation in public places and planned areas.

It has also worked with the city Department of Education and Training to educate teachers and pupils about preventive measures, and encourage them to increase environmental sanitation to limit larva and mosquitoes. Dissemination of the disease and preventive measures have also provided for each family during programs conducted by the city Department of Information and Communications.

According to Vice Chairwoman of the city People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu, existing dumping grounds are considered causes of the outbreaks in some areas. She stressed that the city must implement drastic measures to prevent the disease from becoming an epidemic, negatively influencing the city’s socio-economic development.

“Chairpersons of district People’s Committees must take responsibility for the prevention of the disease, especially during the APEC meetings being held in the city,” she said./.
