Over the past years, medical insurance has promoted its efficiency in caring for and protecting residents’ health, assisting reducing medical fees, especially for those who contract dangerous diseases.

The program granting medical insurance cards to poor people and those in remote areas was initiated by the Red Cross of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital, as it realized that many poor patients did not dare to go to hospital because they could not afford medical fees. Seeing that medical insurance cards play very important role in providing healthcare for the poor, the Ho Chi Minh city Red Cross encouraged the donation of medical insurance cards to poor people. “We consider it a key task of the organization,” said Tran Van Tuan, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh city Red Cross.

To raise funds to buy medical insurance for the poor, each district has built up its own strategy. The District 8 Red Cross organizes vegetarian buffet parties each quarter, mobilizing over 600 medical insurance cards per year, while the Tan Phu District Red Cross carries out a humanitarian stall to raise fund for hundreds of medical insurance cards per year./.
