After the lunar New Year, hundreds of staff members from the Ho Chi Minh city Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) donated 260 units of blood to save people, as there are often shortages of blood during Tet. Quach Cuong, Deputy Secretary of the Saigon Co.op Party Committee, said the activity of great significance has become an annual deed which reflects the humanitarian spirit and responsibility of the whole staff.

According to Nguyen Anh Duc, Saigon Co.op Standing Deputy General Director, together with ensuring goods quality for Tet, the union distributed over 10,000 presents to beneficiaries’ families, poor people and workers living in disadvantaged circumstances.

Ly Kim Mai, a Hoa ethnic minority retired person in district 5, said that what he learns from Uncle Ho is to love humans, respect humans, and assist humans. He added that he was very happy to witness a joyful festival of the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. “Hoa ethnic minority people both help each other in doing business and hold sales of lanterns to collect tens of billions of VND supporting the lives of poor families and disadvantaged people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the city Women’s Union organized a Vietnamese traditional long dress march with the participation of 3,000 people, while launching a program giving long dress for the union’s members, female workers and teachers, as well as pupils in the outskirts of the city. Clothes and scholarships were also provided for disadvantaged female pupils with excellent academic results. “The activities aim to realize Uncle Ho’s wish for everyone to have food to eat, clothes to wear and schools to study.”

Following Uncle Ho’s ideology, each guideline and policy of the city Party Committee and the city People’s Committee put humans at the centre. Recently, the city People’s Committee has completed the draft project on attracting experts, scientists and young creative labourers to work in departments, agencies and hi-tech zones until 2020. This is one of the specific actions to realize the National Assembly resolution on pilot implementation of special mechanisms and policies for city development./.
