Ho Chi Minh city’s Book Street welcomes over 1.2 million visitors

In the first half of this year, the Book Street in Ho Chi Minh city welcomed over 1.2 million visitors, according to the southern representative office of the Vietnam Publishers’ Association.

The Book Street becomes an attractive destination for young readers.
Accordingly, each day, the street welcomes 5,000-10,000 people who come to visit, read and buy books

In the first half of this year, the Book Street has organized 86 events promoting reading culture, an increase of over 10 events compared to the second half of 2016.

The turnover of book stalls was on the rise. The first three months of 2017 reported a total turnover of some VND11 billion, equal to the turnover of the second half of 2016.

Established by a decision of the city People’s Committee in January 2016, the Street Book is located on Nguyen Van Binh Street in district 1, making remarkable contribution to promoting reading culture.

At present, the Book Street gathers nearly 20 publishers, book companies, communications companies, old book collectors and authors from across the country.

The city Department of Information and Communications is developing a project to open more book streets. Accordingly, a book street will be organized for every 2-3 districts./.
