Ho Chi Minh city spends nearly VND1.39 trillion on social welfare

According to the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee, the city has promptly and fully realized the Party and State policies on giving assistance during the lunar New Year festival to revolutionary contributors, poor people, beneficiaries and extremely disadvantaged children.

At the meeting held on February 22nd to review care for people during Tet, the city People’s Committee said that nearly VND1.39 trillion had been spent on social welfare work during 2018 Tet, an increase of over VND80 billion compared to last year.

Apart from VND13.1 billion from the central budget and nearly VND799 billion from the city budget, the city Fatherland Front and unions encouraged businesses and individuals to care for beneficiaries, poor families, poor workers, poor students and farmers, using nearly VND577 billion.

The city sent 50 delegations to visit and give Tet presents to beneficiaries and organized a wide range of practical programs caring for armed forces, workers, laborers, students, poor children and disabled people.

Together with this, professional art performances were held, serving residents’ and international visitors’ recreation. Of which, Nguyen Hue flower street, book streets and flower fairs continued to be typical Tet products of the city, attracting more than 3.8 million visitors./.
