Ho Chi Minh city strives to give prompt assistance to 100% of disadvantaged people

The Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee has issued a plan on carry out the Prime Minister’s project on renewing and developing social assistance in 2017-2025, with a vision until 2030.

Accordingly, in the 2017-2020 period, the city sets a target to give prompt assistance to 100% of disadvantaged people, increase monthly allowances; expand assistance for disadvantaged elderly people without retirement salaries and State support who are ethnic minority people and those who live in the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve and Thanh An commune in Can Gio district; and provide social service assistance to 50% of those who are living in extremely disadvantaged circumstances.

In the 2021-2025 period, apart gains in the previous period, the city will issue policies for children under 36 months old and pregnant women who are ethnic minorities, as well as disadvantaged families in the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve and Thanh An commune in Can Gio district; and raise the rate of access to social service assistance to 70% of those living in extremely disadvantaged circumstances.

By 2030, 100% of disadvantaged people in urgent need will be provided with assistance; as well as elderly people who do not have retirement salaries and social insurance, children under 36 months old, poor and nearly-poor pregnant women; while social allowances will be adjusted to suit State budget and international tendency and increase access to social service assistance to 70% of those living in extremely disadvantaged circumstances./.
