The investment in a waste incinerator using artificial lightning energy to process 1,000 tons of solid waste and 2,000 tons of hazardous waste per day has recently been adopted in Ho Chi Minh city by People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong.

Accordingly, the waste gasification plant using plasma technology will be built on an area of 13 hectares at the Phuoc Hiep waste treatment complex in Cu Chi district.

Invested by Australia’s Trisun Green Energy Corporation, the plant will use a plasma light system to increase the temperature to 3,000-7,000 degrees Celsius in a non-oxygen environment, to create lightning energy to destroy waste. The technology, provided by a Canadian group, is considered the most modern available at present.

Apart from treating waste, the plant allows the conversion of thermal energy to power energy used for the operation of the plant, while the surplus will be sold to the Electricity of Vietnam. Non-hazardous materials released from the burning will be used to produce construction materials.

The plant is expected to be constructed in 33 months and then will be operational for 50 years.

Each day, Ho Chi Minh city releases over 7,000 tons of waste, the majority of which is treated by burying, with a high risk of environmental pollution./.s
