According to Colonel Bui Dinh Quang, Deputy Head of the Ha Tinh provincial Police, the investigation showed that the Ky Anh Urban Environment Company’s signing of a waste burial contract with the Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company (HFS), without any legal licences regarding waste treatment, is a derogation.Meanwhile, the treating of waste from HFS that contains hazardous mud and the transport of industrial waste by the Ky Anh Urban Environment Company goes against the environmental protection law.

Earlier, in July, authorised agencies in Ha Tinh province discovered that the Ky Anh Urban Environment Company had illegally buried waste from HFS in Ky Trinh and Song Tri wards, Ky Anh town.

On July 11th, a delegation was set up to investigate the case. Investigation showed that the Ky Anh Urban Environment Company had buried over 390 tons of waste transported from HFS in the town.

On July 13th, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) worked with authorised agencies to dig and collect all of the waste for temporary storage at the Ha Tinh Industrial Waste Processing Limited Company. By testing 30 samples of mud, land, well and stream water, MONRE confirmed that the waste has high concentrations of cyanide, exceeding the permitted level.

After the prosecution, Ha Tinh provincial Police will assess the responsibility of organizations and individuals relating to the case./.
