Over 140,000 labourers have gone to work abroad this year, an increase of 7% compared to last year, marking the 5th successive year the number of exported labourers exceeded 100,000 per year, the Overseas Labourer Management Department has reported.

According to the department under the Ministry of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), in 2018, the Japanese labour market, for the first time, passed the Taiwanese (China) labour market to become Vietnam’s largest labour export market (over 67,000), followed by Taiwan (65,000), the Republic of Korea (6,000), and Saudi Arabia, Romania, Malaysia, Kuwait and others.

Report by the Vietnam Association of Manpower Supply (VAMAS) shows that in 2018, only 6 of 28 labour export markets received 1,000 or more Vietnamese labourers per year, including China’s Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Romania and Saudi Arabia, with over 90% of Vietnamese labour going to the Japanese and Taiwanese labour markets.

The record number of exported labourers comes from localities’ efforts in carrying out labour export policies.

In Hanoi, the city Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs has increased dissemination of labour export policies to residents; worked with relevant agencies to implement cooperation programs in sending labourers to the Republic of Korea, Japan or Germany; and organized work fairs linking labourers and Korean businesses in Vietnam.

Other localities reporting a large number of exported labourers, including Nghe An and Ha Tinh, have regularly updated information on foreign labour markets and laws while giving assistance to exported labourers.

Meanwhile, labour export businesses have been inspected to address any violations./.
