Lang Son province boosts sustainable poverty reduction among ethnic minorities

The northern mountainous province of Lang Son has efficiently carried out policies for ethnic minority people, creating positive change in poverty reduction and boosting socio-economic development.

According to the provincial People’s Committee Deputy Chairman Ho Tien Thieu, the province has supported production, residential and production land, safe water, loans and direct assistance for ethnic minority people in disadvantaged areas.

He added that housing, water and restroom support priority has been given to poor and nearly-poor families.

In particular, the province has created favourable conditions for the poor to have access to loans, production methods, agricultural and industrial production promotion, the application of technology into production, and residential and production land for poor families; realised preferential loan policies for poor families; and built up and expanded poverty reduction models.

Rural laborers, especially poor laborers, have been prioritized to be provided vocational training and employment. Meanwhile, poor and nearly-poor people, as well as ethnic minority people living in disadvantaged regions, have been given medical insurance.

Since the beginning of this year, the province has given support of nearly 1,000 tons of fertilizer and tens of thousands of seedlings to poor families in extremely disadvantaged regions.

In 2017, Lang Son province is striving to reduce the poverty rate by 3%; give preferential loans to 15,000 poor and nearly-poor families; provide medical insurance to 100% of poor families and ethnic minority people living in disadvantaged regions.

Besides, 100% of poor ethnic minority pupils and students will enjoy school fee exemption and reduction, and 1,000 rural labourers from poor and ethnic minority families will be given vocational training./.
