The good signs for this year’s fishing have encouraged fishermen to go fishing and protecting the nation’s sea and island sovereignty.
On An Hai port, fisherman Tran Van Kieu is happy to say that his vessel gained over 20 tons of fish after two weeks on Paracel islands. Being sold at VND40,000-80,000 per kilogram, depending on the type of fish, each boatmen earned VND10 million.
“A majority of vessels met with large schools of fish. Together with convenient climate conditions, voyages early this year were highly productive,” said Mr. Kieu.
Not only offshore fishing, onshore fishing vessels have also reported high productivity. After one night of fishing at 4-7 nautical mile distance, dozens of vessels of local fishermen caught 5-6 tons of fish, earning around VND100 million. In particular, fisherman Nguyen Gia Vien caught 40 tons of fish, earning VND600 million.
According to Pham Thi Huong, Vice Chairwoman of the Ly Son district People’s Committee, there are currently 528 fishing vessels with a capacity of 68,000 CV or more in Ly Son district, including over 250 vessels with high capacity, conducting offshore fishing.
In the first three months of this year, fishermen exploited over 6,000 tons of fisheries worth nearly VND120 billion, with a majority of the fish having been caught offshore.
As planned, local fishermen will exploit 40,000 tons of fisheries worth over VND850 billion, striving to help each boatman gain an income of VND100-200 million or more per year.
To achieve the target, the district has encouraged fishermen to join fishing unions, develop logistics services, and follow policies supporting them.
Dozens of high capacity fishing vessels are expected to be built this year, to encourage offshore fishing./.
